Bruce Hansen, a classroom teacher since 1975, is author of Literature Based Writing (Mt. Hood Press) and contributor to Educational Leadership, Education Week, and Reading Today. He writes novels under the pen name, Tyler Blackthorne and shows his fine art photography at brucehansenphoto.com and galleries in New Hampshire and Maine. Bruce has taught every grade level from first grade to ninth. He is a frequent presenter at conferences throughout the Pacific Northwest as well as staff development at various school districts. He was the 1989 and 1997 recipient of Golden Apple Award for educational excellence in the Beaverton School District. In 1999, he was honored by the National Teachers Hall of Fame and was the recipient of the Scott-Foresman Reading is Everything national teaching award. Bruce Hansen has retired from teaching in public schools and is now teaching classes for University of Oregon, Portland State University and is an adjunct professor at Lewis and Clark College in the Education and Counseling Department.
